Holy Communion

The sacramental preparation of children to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion is the responsibility of the home, school and parish, working together in partnership. The sacramental preparation of our children must always be seen as one element of the broader task of whole-community.

The work of sacramental preparation begins long before the First Eucharist celebration.
The celebration of First Eucharist is a sacred and important moment on a long journey of faith development. Together with Baptism and Confirmation it opens the door to full membership of the Christian community. It is not an end in itself.

In late 2016, our parish began the introduction of “The Bridge” programme, a new programme designed to help parents and families to explore and articulate their own faith, and to be more confident and involved in their child’s faith formation both during the preparation for Holy Communion and beyond.  It does this by offering a series of sessions for parents, each of which focuses on different ways they can share faith with their families.

Topics covered in the Faith Sessions are:

– Ten Ways to Help Your Family to Grow in Faith

– Making Mass Meaningful for You and Your Child
– Bible Stories for You and Your Child
– Teaching Your Child About Reconciliation
– Praying With Your Child

With the help of this programme, we encourage parents and guardians to take this opportunity  to look once again at the faith that you have passed on to your child, and to consider how you can best help nurture it.

The partnership of school, family and parish also helps prepare our children for celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time.

Here the focus is on the mercy of God, our God who celebrates when we turn to God and ask for forgiveness for our sins. Also stressed is the importance that adults have as role models for children when it comes to their own participation in the Sacrament.

We look forward to celebrating the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Reconciliation with the schools, families, parish and children on the following dates:

March 15th 2017 at 7pm: Sacrament of Reconciliation for St. Malachy’s

May 13th 2017 at 11am: Holy Communion for St. Malachy’s

May 20th 2017 at 11am: Holy Communion for Rathore
